Elementary My Dear Naruto: How Elements Effect Deck Building

Even some seasoned players of the Naruto trading card game will find out they don’t have a very clear understanding of the five elements. Each aspect of a character in the Naruto storyline is associated with one of the file elements, and this was carried over into the trading card game. It’s a challenge to decide whether a deck will be built around a single element or a combination of two or more. While this isn’t an easy decision to make, and both methods can work very well if they’re implemented correctly, a basic knowledge of each element’s strengths and weaknesses will always come in handy.

Wind is probably the best element for a player who needs to inject a balanced factor into their game. It has a number of Mission cards that can draw power while at the same time it has great leaders like Garra that can be matched up with support cards like Temari and Sakura. Wind exclusive players should be careful though, since there is a bit of dearth when it comes to Jutsu cards that can be used for offensive purposes.

Earth tends to be one of the more difficult elements to put into play. There are very little Earth attack opportunities, with the exceptions of the Asuma, Choza, and Neji Hyuga cards. However, there are some diamonds in the rough in the Earth category that can be put to good use by advanced players. The Shikamaru Nara card, for instance, possesses a mental power rating of 4.

Water, on the other hand, would hold well as a single element deck. Haku, Jirobo, Orochimaru, Zabuza and several other cards make for strong leaders who can back up a support card like Sakon or Tayayu. In a single element deck, these can work well with a powerful Hidden Mist or Water Dragon Jutsu card for strong effects.

While it lacks solid support ninja cards, the Fire element has some very strong leaders like Kiba and Kakashi along with many of the strongest Jutsu cards. A game with strong use of the Sharingan card will be one sided, while the Fire mission cards can draw major amounts of power.

Like Fire, Lightning lacks a good pool of support ninja. However, it’s also like the Fire element in that it has some very strong leader cards. The Rock Lee and Naruto Lightning cards are both very strong, and Naruto is in particular well rounded. These two also have some Jutsu cards from this element that are very strong, but work with only those specific leaders.
