Zendikar introduced a few new abilities, including one that I found quite interesting, Landfall. A creature with Landfall has an effect attached to it that activates every time a land comes into play under your control.
Landfall can have quite an interesting effect if you combine it with a group of older cards, the Soratami, in Legacy or casual games.
With their ability, you can return lands to your hand, which, in turn, gives you the option of playing them again, thus activating the Landfall abilities multiple times.
This works best if you have green as a colour. This would further increase your land produce, plus, with cards like Azusa, Lost but Seeking, putting your lands returned with the Soratami to the battlefield again is easy.
Also, find yourself a Patron of the Moon. It is very useful for getting the lands back, plus you can play it as an instant. Use in in combination with Baloth Woodcrasher, and you have yourself a 12/12 blocker.
Of course, a full hand might be a problem in such a deck, so be sure to add 4 Spellbooks. Another option is Graceful Adept.
Using both Soratami and Landfall abilities, one combo can create a bunch of flying creatures in a short time. For this combo, you’ll need white in your mana pool.
Using Emeria Angel in combination with Meloku the Clouded Mirror and Patron of the Moon can prove very fruitful. You start with Meloku, using her ability twice and returning the tapped land to your hand. There you have 2 tokens. Now use Patron of the Moon to return two land for 1 mana. Emeria Angel’s ability activates twice, creating 2 more tokens.
Thus, you can create 4 1/1 Flying creatures with colourless mana. Better yet, you can do this at any time you could play an instant!
This may not be the best combo, but if used correctly, you can create monstrous creatures or armies of fliers. If you can get your hands on a Roil Elemental, protecting it with Soratami Rainshaper, you can turn the tide in a tough situation.
That’s all for now. Good luck. Hm.
