Would You Play Magic: The Gathering Tactics?

Huzzah! An article about Magic: The Gathering posted on July 1st, 2010 by

As a long time Magic player, I do keep note of electronic adaptations of the trading card game to see if any of them strike my fancy. Something like Duels of the Planeswalkers made sense because it was just a cleaned up and easy to play variation of the card game which made for some great online play that is quick to setup and finish. It’s nice being able to pop open Steam and play a quick MTG match with players around the globe, even if my choice of decks/cards are a bit limited.

Now something like Magic: The Gathering – Tactics is a completely different animal. I’m not really a huge fan of turn based games in this style with the one exception being the original Final Fantasy Tactics which I loved, and as such I’m left with a sort of meh feel to it. While it is cool to see some of my favorite Magic cards come to life in this manner, I didn’t really see all that many iconic cards displayed in recent trailers, and the graphics and gameplay look like they leave something to be desired.

Ultimately the question will be whether the developers really wanted to make a new and exciting adaptation of the trading card game or whether they’re just looking to bilk Magic fans from money that would likely have gone to additional cards.
