$5 & $5 Referral Program

Huzzah! An article about Giveaways posted on September 12th, 2010 by

Here at Trading Card Escrow, we’re excited to launch our new referral program. Now, when you get a friend to join and use our trading forum, you both get $5. Here’s how it works:

  1. You tell someone else about the TCE trading forum
  2. They join our forums and post their haves/wants list so people can start trading with them
  3. Their first trade is not only free, but we’ll also include a $5 bill – we’ll actually pay them $5 to do their first trade. In order to get the $5, they have to tell us who referred them (that’s you).
  4. We send you $5 too, either via PayPal or in cash with your next trade (whichever you prefer).
  5. Rinse and repeat – refer as many people as you like

Five dollar bill

New members: To tell us who referred you, just write their forum username on a note telling us you were referred, and include it with your first trade. This will tell us to make your trade free and give you $5.

Members making referrals: Let us know when you’ve referred someone so we can match them up with you and pay you when they do their first trade. This isn’t necessary as long as the other person tells us you referred them, but it can’t hurt. Make sure your forum account is working properly so we can contact you to arrange payment.

Why are we doing this? Simply put, it’s because our forum becomes more useful to everyone as it grows in size. We want you to have more people to trade with, so we’re incentivizing people to join and use our trading forum.

Rules:

  • We reserve the right to end this promotion at any time by posting a notice on our website. Trades already in the mail when the promotion ends will still be honored.
  • No spamming or scamming. Use only legitimate social means to invite others you know to our forums. This means only contacting people you already know. Try Facebook, Twitter, or your local card store. If you use another online forum, please be courteous and follow the forum’s rules for contacting other members. Spammers will be banned from our forums and will not be paid. Similarly, people trying to cheat the system (e.g. by making fake trades with themselves or their imaginary cousins) will be banned and won’t be paid.
  • Trades must be conducted through Trading Card Escrow, and must be arranged through our trading forum (note: you can also use TCE to escrow trades you arrange on other forums, but this promotion only applies to trades made in our forum)
  • You may only have one account on our forum, and you may only receive the new member bonus once.
  • There is no limit on the number of people you can refer. It’s $5 per person who joins and makes a trade, so if you refer a bunch of people, you’ll get a bunch of five-dollarses. Sweet, huh?

Contact us with any questions. To get started, head over to the trading forum.

Tips for Keeping Your Kids Safe Online

Huzzah! An article about Trading Tips posted on December 23rd, 2009 by

The internet is a great way to connect with people who share your hobbies and interests, and collectible card games are no exception. Trading cards with others is a great way to expand your knowledge and enjoyment of collectible card gaming.

However, you don’t want to put your safety or personal information at risk, and if you’re a parent, you don’t want your children to reveal sensitive information to strangers.

Here are some tips for parents:

  • Teach your child to never provide their real name or address to others online, even if they’ve “known” the other person for a long time online.
  • Remind your child that people they meet online may not be who they’re pretending to be. Most websites do not do anything to verify the profile information provided by members.
  • Teach your child to select usernames (on websites that require registration) that does not include any personally identifiable information, such as their school name, city of residence, ZIP code, or date of birth (for example, RedmondGrrl1998 is not a good choice, as it tells the gender, approximate age, and location of the user).
  • Remind your child that arranging face-to-face meetings with people they meet online is never OK
  • Openly discuss your reasons for establishing rules for your child’s internet use – help them understand your concerns and the reasons behind them.
  • Trust but check – don’t assume your child is behaving safely online. Establish agreement on how you will monitor your child’s online activity, and include a plan for how this will evolve as your child matures. For example, for a younger child you may want to insist that you have the password to all online accounts your child uses.

What Does “CML” Mean?

Huzzah! An article about Trading Tips posted on November 21st, 2009 by

“CML” or “cml” means “Check My List” (or “see my list”) – in other words, to see what cards I’m interested in trading, look at the list I’ve posted on this forum.

When someone uses this acronym, they usually have a link to their list included in the footer of their message. You might need to view the member’s profile to find their have/want list(s).

Creating Your “Have” List

Huzzah! An article about Trading Tips posted on November 21st, 2009 by

One of the best ways to find a trading partner is to post a list of the cards you have and are willing to trade – a “have” list – in an online forum.

On most trading forums, you’ll see numerous examples of “have” lists from other members. Before posting your own list, make sure you understand the rules of the forum; for example, some forums allow only one trading thread per member.

For example, you might post a “have” list if you own and are willing to trade the following cards:

2x Kaiser Sea Horse
Dark Nephthys
Dark Eradicator Warlock
Command Knight
Super-Ancient Dinobeast
Rose, Warrior of Revenge
3x Reinforcement of the Army [Gold Rare]
5x Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon[1x JUMP][4x Gold Rare]
4x Chimeratech Overdragon
3x Junk Warrior
Snatch Steal
Evil Hero Inferno Wing
Riryoku
Evil Hero Malicious Fiend
Unity
Dangerous Machine Type 6

These are Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, and the numbers such as 3x mean that the person has three of this card.

As others read your “have” list, they may post links to their own “have” list, which you can review to see if they have anything you want. If you find a card you want, get in touch to start your trade.
